PSG drop Kylian Mbappe from pre-season tour over fears he’s already agreed move
Paris Saint-Germain have dropped Kylian Mbappe from their pre-season tour and put the World Cup winner up for sale as they believe he’s already agreed a move away from the club.
The French champions travel to Japan on Saturday to continue their pre-season schedule ahead of the new season.
But Mbappe will not be with the squad after being left out over fears he has already agreed to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
Mbappe has enjoyed astonishing individual success at Paris Saint-Germain, establishing himself as one of the best players in the world by scoring 212 goals in 260 games and winning five Ligue 1 titles.
But his relationship with the club is becoming increasingly strained, with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi saying last month that the 24-year-old must either extend his contract beyond the end of next season or be sold this summer.
Mbappe, who won the World Cup in 2018 and scored a hat-trick in France’s World Cup final defeat last year, has insisted he has no intention of signing a new deal at PSG, who he recently described as a ‘divisive’ club.
PSG were understandably concerned by the comments and have now made the decision to leave Mbappe at home while the first-team squad travels to Japan for two pre-season friendlies.
French outlet L’Équipe claim PSG’s decision stems from a belief that Mbappe has already reached an agreement to join Real Madrid when his current contract expires in 12 months’ time.
Real Madrid have been interested in signing Mbappe for several years and the Frenchman is said to be desperate to play at the Bernabeu.
Paris Saint-Germain’s owners delivered an ultimatum to Mbappe last month, with Al-Khelaifi saying: ‘My position is very clear, I don’t want to repeat it all the time. If Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay.
‘But he needs to sign a new contract. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world on a free. That’s impossible.
‘He had said that he would never leave on a free. It’s not my fault that he’s changed his mind now. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free. That’s very clear.’
