PS5 edition of Dead Cells pops up on the ESRB website

New edition seeming en route

It appears that the mega-popular rougelite Dead Cells might be preparing to make its native debut on Gen 9 platforms, as a new listing on the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) points to a PS5 port of the award-winning release — which first launched on PC and consoles in the summer of 2018.

As noted by Gematsu this past weekend, the new edition is seemingly named Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania Edition, which suggests that it will launch on PS5 with all post-release content intact, including expansions The Bad Seed, Update of Plenty, and the recent crossover DLC, Return to Castlevania. As to whether this new edition will feature any technical boost, we will simply have to wait until publisher Playdigious shows its hand.

Back in 2018, Dead Cells received stellar praise across the board from critics and players, scoring close to full marks from a number of websites and outlets (including our own). The 2D fantasy adventure sees a mysterious protagonist known as “The Prisoner” battle their way across a monster-infested island on a quest to slay its monarch. With a fantastic, old-school aesthetic, fluid movement and combat, and a surprisingly deep challenge, Dead Cells won over an army of fans in a flash, and is still building upon its audience today, almost five years on from release.

Dead Cells is available now on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and mobile platforms.
