PS Plus May 2023 free games reveal coming sooner than expected
If you’re a PS Plus Essential subscriber looking to get your hands on some free PS4 and PS5 games, then the good news is that the May 2023 PlayStation Plus reveal will take place sooner than you might think. The May 2023 free PlayStation Plus games will be officially announced at 4.30pm BST UK time on April 26 – that’s just a few days away. The games will be available to download less than a week later on the morning of May 2. Unfortunately, however, the news isn’t quite as rosy for PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers, after Sony confirmed plans to remove more than 30 games from the service in May.
The PS Plus Extra Games Catalogue will lose titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, Resident Evil, and Kingdom Come Deliverance on May 15.
That’s on top of games like Shenmue 3, Pathfinder: Kingmaker – Definitive Edition, Metro Last Light Redux and Homefront: The Revolution.
Lots of these games have 20-hour+ campaigns, so you’d better hurry if you want to complete any of the aforementioned titles before they disappear.
The news was announced on the PlayStation Blog: “As part of our normal content refresh, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Resident Evil, and NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 will be among some of the titles leaving the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog in May.
“Members with Game Catalog benefits can still play by May 15. You can always check the ‘Last chance to play section’ on the PlayStation Plus -> Collections page on the PS5 console, or PlayStation Plus -> Games -> Games Catalogue on the PS4 console for titles you might want to play before they leave the service.”
On the plus side, Sony continues to add games to the PlayStation Plus Games Catalogue at regular intervals.
Earlier this week, Sony added the likes of Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Doom Eternal and Riders Republic.
That’s on top of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Slay the Spire, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, The Evil Within, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, Bassmaster Fishing, and the excellent Paradise Killer.
The Premium line-up, on the other hand, features the original Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3, as well as Doom 64, and Dishonored Definitive Edition.
As a reminder, an annual PS Plus Extra subscription costs £83.99. It includes all the benefits of a regular PS Plus subscription (online play, free monthly games and discounts), plus access to an ever-expanding game catalogue, and Ubisoft+ Classics.
PS Plus Premium contains the same perks as above, as well as a library of classic games, free game trials, and cloud streaming. It costs £99.99 for the entire year.
