Priyanka Tibrewal is BJP’s candidate against Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur

Priyanka Tibrewal, a Calcutta High Court advocate who is lead petitioner in the post-poll violence cases, is BJP’s candidate against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur bypoll.

Tibrewal joined the BJP in 2014 and has been a state office bearer. She contested from the Entally assembly constituency in the recent state elections, but lost to Trinamool Congress heavyweight Swarna Kamal Saha.

The bypoll in Bhabanipur was announced after sitting MLA Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay vacated the seat for Mamata Banerjee to contest. Banerjee, who lost from Nandigram, has to win her to remain chief minister,

Priyanka Tibrewal graduated from Delhi University and studied law at Calcutta University. She practices at the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court. She also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Assumption University, Thailand.

Tibrewal was the lawyer representing victims of the post-poll violence when the High Court ordered a CBI investigation and also constituted a Special Investigation Team.

CM Banerjee has already hit the campaign trail in Bhabanipur which was twice her seat from 2011 to 2021. The BJP has announced a list of star campaigners in Bhabanipur which include former MoS Babul Supriyo, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh and former national secretary Rahul Sinha.
