Princess Kate’s green amethyst earrings have significant meaning
Kate, Princess of Wales and Prince William have been together for 12 years, and throughout their relationship, William has gifted his wife several pieces of jewellery.
To celebrate their first official Christmas together in 2011 he gave his wife-to-be a beautiful pair of amethyst earrings from Kiki McDonough which she debuted for the Royal Family’s annual walk to church on Christmas Day.
Most amethyst earrings are purple, but Kate’s earrings are a unique pair of green amethyst stones.
There are several meanings and healing properties associated with green amethyst stones.
Steven Stone jewellers said: “Green amethyst is said to represent harmony, love and balance – making it a heartwarming choice of stone for the couple’s first official Christmas together”.
First Class Watches said: “Green amethyst is thought to have the power to protect its wearer from conflict. The gemstone is said to have the ability to calm emotions such as grief and envy.”
As for the design of the earrings, they are the brand’s two-in-one pair making them incredibly versatile.
The website description reads: “Featuring an oval Green Amethyst drop surrounded by Diamonds set in 18ct Yellow Gold, on an elegant 18ct Yellow Gold and Diamond hoop.
“Wear the hoops on their own or add the drop for a stunning classic look.”
Each pair of Kiki McDonough earrings are unique, because they are made with “gemstones [that] are naturally occurring and have been carefully chosen for their exceptional quality. This means that the colour may vary slightly from the image shown”.
The earrings are still displayed on the brand’s official website for £2,600 but are currently unavailable and customers have to sign up to a mailing list to be notified when they are back in stock.
The earrings have great significance to Kate, who has also worn them to church on Christmas Day in both 2013 and 2015.
These are not the only Kiki McDonough earrings Kate owns, according to Kate Middleton Style Blog, the Princess has over 22 designs.
She has probably worn the Grace Stud Earrings and the Citrine Pear Drop Earrings the most.
Kiki McDonough has previously spoken out about Kate wearing her designs. In an interview with Femail she stated: “She wears my pieces as they should be worn. She obviously enjoys wearing colour on her ears as opposed to pearls and diamonds all the time.
“My jewellery is very wearable so it is easy for her to put it with jeans, skirts and dresses – so it is suitable for every occasion.”
Kiki also said Kate is her ideal customer: “She is a busy working mother like me, and I design jewellery that goes with that lifestyle. My designs have always reflected the way we live now, dashing from work to an event.
“I will quite often keep the same pair of earrings on for a week and they go with me wherever I am going (from the theatre to a football match) and that seems to be something that my clients appreciate.”
