Princess Kate accused of ‘copying’ Meghan style for Eurovision 2023

Royal fans have taken to social media after they claim to have spotted similarities between Princess Kate’s Eurovision dress, and a gown previously worn by Meghan Markle last year.

On Saturday, Kate delighted fans after she made an unexpected appearance during the opening of the Eurovision final.

The eccentric song contest was held in Liverpool, England this year following Britain coming second place in 2022, and hosted the competition on behalf of the winner Ukraine.

The show opened with a performance by Ukrainian winners, Kalush Orchestra performing their winning song Stefania, and Kate made a short cameo during the song to play the piano.

The Princess dazzled in a bright blue off-shoulder Jenny Packham dress, that is part of the designer’s Marlowe collection worth $3,820 (£3,049), and also wore a pair of Queen Elizabeth’s earrings.

However, some royal fans commented online that the dress bears a striking resemblance to the dress Meghan wore to the NAACP Awards in New York City in 2022.

Both the Duchess and Prince Harry attended to accept the President’s Award, which is presented in recognition of distinguished public service.

Meghan wore a bright blue dress by designer Christopher John Rogers to the event, which featured a light blue ombre drape and had a high leg slit.

One person on Twitter wrote: “When will Kate stop copying Meghan? She copied Diana throughout the ten years of her marriage, and now she has started with Meghan. This is absolute madness.”

Another commentator said: “[Kate copying Meghan] is next-level creepy and disturbing.”

A third person said: “Meghan Markle is the prototype! We know Kate.” Another user said: “Is Kate’s stylist trolling? That is clearly a dress Meghan has worn.”

Somebody else wrote: “[Kate] knows that Harry and Meghan bring the sparkle, [she’s] trying to emulate them.”

However, other royal fans remained unconvinced that the Princess of Wales had taken inspiration from Meghan.

One person argued: “The Princess has a long close association with Ukraine, so she is wearing Ukranian blue for the Eurovision final to honour the country.”

Kate has previously paid tribute to Ukraine through her outfits, as in November 2022 she wore a blue and gold polka dot dress by designer L.K Bennett to meet Ukrainian refugees.

Another fan pointed out that “Diana did it first” and posted a picture of Princess Diana wearing a similar bright blue dress, that she wore in Australia in 1996.

Somebody else said: “Clearly both Kate and Meghan are emulating Diana in their own way, it’s a tribute to their mother-in-law. Nobody is copying anybody!”

One user said: “Good grief! Meghan looked great, [Kate] looked great, I guess no royal woman can ever wear blue one-shoulder gowns ever again!”
