‘Pretty surreal’: Aussie’s insane Super Bowl moment
An Australian man who scored a last minute ticket to the Super Bowl, walked away from the memorable clash in Arizona with the ball that sailed through the posts to secure the match in the final seconds.
In what could turn out to be an expensive piece of memorabilia, Melbourne-raised Eamonn Dixon, 40, was in the right place at the right time as the ball ended up in his lap in the packed State Farm Stadium, when the Chiefs’ Harrison Butker kicked his team to Super Bowl glory with a 27-yard field goal with eight seconds left on the clock.
That was the difference as Kansas City pulled off a thrilling 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs’ second win in four years.

“It was pretty surreal to be honest. I got a last minute ticket to the game,” Dixon told Nine’s Today. “The ball floated over the net and right into my arms which was incredible.
“I have no idea (what it’s worth). I was waiting for someone to ask for it back but then one of the security guards said, ‘You should get out of here with that thing as soon as you can.'”
Dixon, who grew up in North Fitzroy in Melbourne, said leaving the arena was a difficult task.
“It was a pretty exciting game and everyone was asking for photos with me and giving me high-fives,” he told Radio 3AW.
“Everyone was trying to get it off me but one of my friends who I was with, I shoved it in her bag and we sort of got ushered towards the exit and all of a sudden I was out in the car park. It was all just a bit of a blur.”
Dixon, who lives in San Francisco, was offered the rare chance to go to the game by a client and caught a late flight to get to Arizona, making it just in time.
“I didn’t have a ticket to the game but one of my incredible Doritos clients called me up in the morning and said that a spare ticket had become available,” he said.
“I got to the game just as the national anthem was being sung. I was just sitting there and then four quarters later the ball just sort of fell in my lap, which was pretty surreal.”
