President Murmu bats for technical education in regional languages – Times of India

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday batted for teaching technical education in mother tongue, saying many students face difficulty in understanding English.
Speaking at an event after launching engineering books of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in Odia language; glossary of the technical terms in Odia and e-KUMBH (Knowledge Unleashed in Multiple Bharatiya Languages) portal, the President said, “These steps will go a long way in making education accessible to all.”
Highlighting how the National Education Policy-2020 focuses on providing technical education in the regional languages, the President said that there is no doubt that mother tongue helps in better intellectual development in students.
“Learning in mother tongue would develop creative thinking and analytical skills among students. It would also bridge the urban and rural divide,” she said on the second-day of her two-day visit to Odisha, the first to her native state after she took over in July.
The difficulties of technical education in regional languages due to non-availability of textbooks in vernacular languages is overcome with the AICTE coming out with books in various languages, she said.
The President said language should be an enabling factor not a hindrance for educating the students. The introduction of learning in regional and local languages would go a long way towards building a well-educated, aware and vibrant society, she said.
The President said that Odia being an ancient and rich language with distinct literary tradition and rich vocabulary, there would be no difficulty in getting technical education in Odia language.
