Potts pleased to play full part in West Ham’s win over Perth
The Hammers produced a free-flowing display in the first of their two pre-season matches Down Under, with Jarrod Bowen netting twice.
Gianluca Scamacca converted a penalty, with Emerson and Divin Mubama also on target after an early own goal from Darryl Lachman.
And Potts, having signed a new three-year contract, is hoping to feature more as the 2023-24 Premier League season draws closer.
“It was a tough game as Perth Glory were a good side who liked to play similar to how we like to play so it was a good test,” he told whufc.com.
“It’s 90 minutes for a few of us, which was important as it’s the first 90 that we’ve had in pre-season.
“I’m enjoying my football. I’m a young player trying to break into the first team and I’m enjoying [the challenge].”
Hammers boss David Moyes has said Potts could go out on loan to gain more senior experience this season.
But the 19-year-old midfielder is focusing on their next friendly against London rivals Tottenham, having seen close to 25,000 fans watch their first match at the Optus Stadium.
“It’s unbelievable to play in front of this many West Ham fans in Australia,” he added.
“We’ve heard that they’ve come from all over Australia and it’s incredible. It was really, really good to play in front of the Australian fans.
“Tottenham is a rivalry and no matter that it’s a friendly, we want to win. As a West Ham fan myself we always want the game against Tottenham, Arsenal, all the London teams.
“It will be a tough game, but one we are looking forward to playing in front of even more fans inside this stadium.”
