Popular seaside town tops list of most popular staycation destinations

A survey of 2,000 parents revealed the top 20 places for an unforgettable holiday on home turf, with Edinburgh, York, and Blackpool also making it into the coveted top 10.

The research, commissioned by Premier Inn, shed light on the preferences of families when it comes to planning their staycations. An impressive 45 percent of those surveyed admitted that they wouldn’t embark on a family trip without easy access to a pool or the sea within a 10-mile radius.

When it comes to value for money, the Lake District emerged as the winner, closely followed by Cornwall and Devon. The study also revealed that 53 percent of families now opt for staycations over international holidays.

However, a day out during these staycations doesn’t come cheap. Parents are willing to spend an average of £142 on a typical day out, whether it involves a visit to the beach or exploring local attractions.

In response to these findings, Premier Inn has created a useful map (available at www.premierinn.com/meet-inn-the-middle) to help families find exciting attractions located conveniently halfway between meeting points with friends and relatives. This initiative aims to make planning activities during the school summer holidays easier and more enjoyable.

A spokesperson for Premier Inn said: “With so many amazing places to visit in the UK this summer, we’re happy to give parents some inspiration ahead of the upcoming school holidays.

“It can be hard choosing the right places that are suitable for everyone, which is why it’s great that a lot of these places are just a car journey away.”

They added: “Staycations not only promote relaxation and rejuvenation but also empower us to support our local communities and appreciate the wonders that lie just beyond our own front doors. So, let’s embark on a journey of exploration right where we are and unlock the glorious sights of our home sweet home.”

While London was hailed as the best destination for attractions and activities, Bath and Manchester also received high praise. Interestingly, 68 percent of parents actively seek out educational places to visit that their children will find enjoyable and interesting.

Affordable accommodation options were deemed important by 48 percent of parents when planning their perfect staycation. A good selection of restaurants and cafes (47 percent) and free or inexpensive days out (44 percent) were also key considerations.

Moreover, 66 percent of respondents stated that the availability of free activities in the chosen destination played a significant role in their staycation planning process.
