Popular holiday destination to scrap travel ban for Brits
MOROCCO has announced it will scrap its flight ban, meaning Brits can once again visit the popular holiday destination.
The ban will be lifted on February 7, just in time for half term.
The Moroccan government banned all flights in and out of the country on November 29 to try to reduce the spread of Omicron.
The ban was initially only supposed to last for two weeks, but authorities kept it in place for more than two months.
But it will finally be lifted next week and commercial air travel is expected to return soon.
However, details of Covid entry requirements have not yet been announced, so it is unclear whether Brits will need to take any pre-entry tests or quarantine on arrival.
Travel companies are relieved that the country will finally reopen to visitors next week.
As reported in The Independent, Zina Bencheikh, managing director EMEA for Intrepid Travel, said: ”The last two months have been incredibly difficult for the many people who rely on tourism for their income in Morocco.
“Domestic tourism can’t make up for the fall in overseas visitor numbers and many businesses have struggled to stay afloat.
“The reopening of the border is fantastic news for local people and travellers who have been hoping to visit.”
Ryanair is offering flights from the UK to Marrakech from February 14.
In December, the airline cancelled all flights to and from Morocco until February 1, despite the flight ban only being expected to last two weeks.
The airline’s decision to cancel those flights left more than 230,000 Ryanair customers with disrupted travel plans.
It’s more good news for Brits hoping to head off on their holidays, as the Netherlands will scrap its quarantine rules for Brits from Wednesday.
We’ve rounded up the 34 countries Brits can enter without needing a Covid test – and these are the 38 countries Brits are banned from entering because of Covid rules.
