Police cars swarm Salford Quays tram stop after reports of gunshots

A huge emergency services response was seen in Salford Quays this afternoon after reports that ‘shots’ were heard.

Scores of police cars and ambulance were parked outside Salford Quays tram stop. Police confirmed they had been called around 2.20pm after reports that gunshots were heard near the Lowry Centre.

Officers found a group of youths throwing nails at passers-by and causing damage to property. No injuries were reported.

A GMP spokesman said: “At 2.22pm this afternoon (11 March) police were called with reports that shots had been heard around the Lowry Centre area of Salford Quays.

“Officers attended the scene and initial enquiries suggest that a group of youths were throwing nails at passers-by and damaging property. Enquiries are ongoing. No injuries have been reported.”

A North West Ambulance spokesman confirmed they had supported this ‘police incident’ and that there were no casualties.
