PlayStation’s Discord Integration Could Be Happening Imminently

Back in May of 2021, Sony officially announced a new partnership with Discord which aimed to bring the popular communication service to PlayStation consoles.

Unfortunately, an exact release date for the anticipated integration wasn’t revealed by Sony or Discord, but the announcement post did indicate that it would be happening in early 2022.

We’re now officially in early 2022 and we haven’t heard a peep about the integration since. But, one Discord user seems to have been able to link their PlayStation account ahead of the official release, suggesting that we won’t be waiting much longer to see the integration take place.

Discord User Unlocks PlayStation Network Integration

Although the post was removed by Reddit moderators, one user took to the Discord subreddit to reveal that they were somehow able to link their PlayStation Network account to Discord. In the image, which can be seen below, under the ‘Connections’ tab on Discord, Reddit user /u/jankesjt was able to link their usual accounts such as Facebook, Steam, and more, whilst also having a ‘PlayStation Network’ option available.

When asked how they managed to unlock this feature, the user stated that he was able to “force enable” the currently unreleased feature following a new Discord update. Of course, we don’t recommend anybody attempts this as it violates Discord’s terms of service as ‘client modification’.

The good news is that although yet to be released, the fact that Discord is preparing for the integration in recent updates suggest we won’t be waiting much longer to get the app on PlayStation consoles.

It’s currently unclear exactly what features will be available in the integration, such as voice chat, messaging and more. Xbox One users have had Discord available for some years now, but the feature is incredibly limited, only allowing players to see what others are playing.

But, when first announced by Sony, CEO and President Jim Ryan stated that the goal of the collaboration was to “allow friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together”, suggesting that features such as voice chat will be made available.

Discord’s PlayStation Integration is currently targeted for an early 2022 release.
