PlayStation streamed gameplay of upcoming video game ‘Hogwarts Legacy.’ Fans are tweeting their reactions

Harry Potter fans took to social media on Thursday to post about their first glimpse of the long-awaited video game “Hogwarts Legacy.”

Since the wizard-themed video game was first announced in 2020, its trailer has amassed 28 million views on YouTube. Scheduled to be released later this year, fans finally saw what playing Hogwarts Legacy might look like during a 14-minute “State of the Play” livestream by PlayStation on Thursday evening.

The video game is being developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. under the label Portkey Games. The website for the video game states “Hogwarts Legacy” will be released later this year, but no release date has been specified.

Jamie Harris, a technology reporter from the UK, said on Twitter that he had “been waiting so long” for the a first look at “Hogwarts Legacy.”

Gavin Sheehan, an editor at online magazine Bleeding Cool, wrote that he is concerned the game was getting attention despite the controversies surrounding franchise author J.K. Rowling. Her controversial social media presence has drawn criticism from fans and the cast of the Harry Potter films.

The “Hogwarts Legacy” website stated Rowling “is not directly involved in the creation of the game,” and that the game will not include Rowling’s characters, but will be set in the universe she created.

Some Twitter users said they are less connected to the movies.

Others also shared that they were excited to explore the Harry Potter-themed video game.

The game is scheduled to be released during the holiday season on PlayStation, Xbox and personal computers.
