Approval was given to the Greenshaw Learning Trust by the Department of Education to establish a new school in Rosehill Park.
The school – Angel Hill Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) School – will provide school placements for 96 secondary age students on the autistic spectrum.
Demand for SEND school places in Sutton is currently high, and students with Education Health Care Plans (EHCP’s) relating to Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) who meet the Local Education Authority’s admissions criteria will be able to apply.
Will Smith, Chief Executive Officer of The Greenshaw Learning Trust, explained: “We are very excited to be able to share the plans for Angel Hill SEND School. Our personalised approach and teamwork will ensure that learning activities are carefully planned to meet individual needs, with the right support and strong links between home and school.
“We know many local families have waited a long time for such a provision to become a reality.
“We are grateful for your support and look forward to making a contribution to Rosehill Park that will also benefit the whole community.”
Rosehill Park has been named as the proposed site for the build and will feature a small low-rise building, after the plans were redesigned when it was revealed the site will no longer include a mainstream school The construction of the new school is being overseen by construction specialists Reds10 to deliver a carbon neutral building.
Darren Johnson, Senior Project Manager at Reds10, said, “Our proposals would bring a major investment to Sutton from the Department for Education, much needed SEND school places, employment opportunities, new facilities for the community to share, customers for local businesses and collaboration with other park users.”
An exhibition revealing the plans will be on display to the public on Monday, July 17 from 5-8pm at Greenshaw High School in Sutton.
