Planning after Mocks by Jeneeliya Jayakumar, Parmiter’s School
Seeing the big red score on the top of all your papers, realising that maybe you should have revised a tad more.
Mind reeling when understanding that this is it, and that in three months it will be all over.
So…what is next? How do you get the grades you want, but are currently one or two grades below?
Your score right at that moment seems incredibly important, but in fact, like all your teachers say, it is the mistakes that you have made that are much more relevant. Checking what you got wrong, and then focusing a few hours on those mistakes, remembering them, can be very useful for you in the future. After recognising these weak areas, attack them until you have mastered them. Continue various other different revision methods as well. Especially right now, try to spend even a few minutes going through a question or two of a topic, active recalling and blurting being a few methods that provide immense help.
Ansali Vasanthakumar, a Year 13 student, said, “Know your weaknesses and always keep on trying. Effort pays off in the end, eventually”
Here are a few other tips:
–Practice questions indicate where you are falling behind
–Use your teachers, they are there for a reason. If you’re struggling, ask for help, and if you need someone to mark your work, they surely wouldn’t mind helping a hard-working student.
–Don’t overwork yourself-take breaks, enjoy your last year in secondary school and make the most of it.
