Filipino-American drag queen Aura Mayari will be part of the 15th season of the competition reality series “Rupaul’s Drag Race” in the United States, which will air in January 2023.

Aura Mayari has been confirmed to be one of the 16 drag queens who will be part of “Rupaul’s Drag Race,” according to an announcement posted on the hit show’s official Twitter account on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

“Serving Filipina moon goddess, it’s @AuraMayari! [starry eyed and moon emojis],” the tweet read.

The U.S.-based Pinoy drag performer retweeted the post on the same day, saying, “The Filipina Moon Goddess has just landed. Are you ready?”

Aside from the announcement, “Rupaul’s Drag Race” also uploaded a video of Aura prancing on the runway in a Filipiniana-inspired costume. “We’re going [musical notes emoji] to the moon [musical notes emoji] with Aura Mayari,” it said.

The Filipino drag queen was born in the Philippines, but raised in Chicago, U.S. before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, according to a promotional video uploaded on RuPaul’s Drag Race YouTube channel.

“The origin of my drag name, well, I’m proud of being Filipino. So it came from a Philippine gay lingo that can be used to describe someone who’s overacting, overly confident, they’re trying to get attention, someone who’s horny, or someone who’s flirty, so kinda like my drag” Aura Mayari said.

The drag performer also described herself as a “total performer” with a sense of style that is “very edgy, very fashionable, and very boss b*tch vibes.” She is also known for her fierce makeup skills, edgy fashion, and high energy performances,” as mentioned on her official website

Aura will be competing against fellow performers Amethyst, Sugar, Spice, Sasha Colby, Salina EsTitties, Robin Fierce, Princess Poppy, Mistress Isabelle Brooks, Marcia Marcia Marcia, Malaysia Babydoll Foxx, Luxx Noir London, Loosey LaDuca, Jax, Irene Dubois, and Anetra.

The 15th season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is set to premiere on Jan. 6, 2023 at cable channel MTV in the U.S. Additional streaming platforms for global audiences are yet to be announced, as of this writing.

Other Filipino performers who were part of the reality show include Ongina (season 1), “Drag Den” host Manila Luzon (season 3), “Drag Race Philippines” judge Jiggly Caliente (season 4 and “All Stars 6”), Phi Phi O’Hara (season 4), Vivienne Pinay (season 5), and Rock M Sakura (season 12). EDV
