Piers Morgan heralds Camilla as a ‘great Queen Consort’ unlike ‘pathetic’ Harry and Meghan

Camilla, 74, married into the Royal Family 17 years ago amid a lot of controversy surrounding her relationship with Charles after Princess Diana’s tragic death.

Now, the Queen has openly endorsed Camilla, which her eldest son Prince Charles has described as a deep honour for both him and his “darling wife”.

In his most recent article, Piers has explained why Camilla is “best suited” for the job, whilst once again taking the opportunity to aim jibes at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The journalist explained how Camilla and himself had been on good terms for many years, remembering a time when he bought her painting of a rhinoceros from a charity auction in 2002.

Piers went on to use a memory of attending a celeb-packed Christmas lunch at Fortnum and Mason to exemplify why he felt Camilla would make a great Queen Consort.

In his column for The Sun’s Fabulous, he remembered Camilla’s humorous reaction after he asked if she was feeling “disconcerted” by Chris Evans dressing up as a “gigantic purple Christmas tree” for the meal.

She went on to admonish Piers, confirming that she was not offended, because the outfit was “very tame”, which seemed to impress the former Mirror editor.

“Her amused reaction – I can think of a few snobbish royals who’d have got very snotty about such sartorial effrontery  – said everything you need to know about the woman just formally endorsed by the Queen as the next person to hold that historic title when Prince Charles becomes King,” he wrote.

He went on to explain that he had known Camilla for over two decades and that they had always “got on oddly well”.

“Of course, we’re both massively misunderstood and unfairly maligned public figures!” Piers said, before adding: “Actually, in her case, that’s true.”

Piers also quoted the late Queen Mother, who had advised that to become a well-liked member of the Royal Family, one should “never complain, never explain, and rarely be heard speaking in public”.

He wrote: “Nobody other than the Queen better epitomises this philosophy than Camilla who’s been subjected to more abuse, ridicule, and savage media criticism than any other member of the Royal Family following all the fall-out from her affair with Charles, yet who has never once publicly responded to it.”

Camilla is now poised to take on the same role that the late Prince Philip carried out alongside the Queen for decades.

Considering the drama surrounding Prince Charles’ divorce from Princess Diana in 1996 and the years of speculation about his then-mistress, Piers pointed out that Camilla seems to have “soared not just with the Queen but with the British people” ever since the scandal.

The journalist also couldn’t resist having a dig at Harry and Meghan during his article, whom he described as “pathetically self-serving”.

He claimed that the couple “endlessly whine, sue, trash their families, play the victim, and fleece their royal titles for crude commercial gain”, while Camilla has “risen above the often viciously unfair fray with a grace and dignity, and a keen understanding of royal duty, that says so much about her character”.

Piers went on to further describe his closeness with Camilla, sharing that she had read his book Wake Up: Why the World Has Gone Nuts, and that she “missed his political dust-ups” on Good Morning Britain.

He also described her son Tom as a “long-time friend” and added that Camilla had sent him a handwritten note when his parents were sick with COVID-19.

“Camilla’s a class act,” he wrote, “And the fact Her Majesty the Queen now thinks she is the right person to perform the same Monarch consort role for Charles that Prince Philip did for her for so long, is good enough for me.”

“I can’t think of a single other woman in the world better suited, or more suitably experienced, to do such an incredibly difficult job,” Piers concluded.
