Piers Morgan heaps praise on Princess Anne: ‘She never gets enough credit’
The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral last Thursday at the age of 96, and several members of the royal family, including Anne, journeyed to Balmoral to be with her.
The Princess followed the procession led by her late mother’s hearse from Balmoral to Edinburgh over the weekend, a six-hour journey on the roads.
After the Queen’s death, her coffin was taken from the castle, through the Highlands, down to Edinburgh’s Royal Holyroodhouse.
Taking to social media, controversial TalkTV host Morgan, 57, argued that the Princess, 72, doesn’t get enough appreciation for her royal duties.
He tweeted: ‘Princess Anne is being driven in a car behind her mother’s hearse for six hours from Balmoral to Edinburgh, grief etched on her face.’
He continued: ‘Anne never gets enough credit for her own selfless devotion to duty and decorum. Like the late Queen, she represents the very best of royalty.’
Morgan has previously supported the idea of moving Princess Anne up the line of succession in order for her to replace Prince Harry.
During an interview with Hugo Vickers on Good Morning Britain in 2021, Morgan said: ‘Shall we all agree that Princess Anne should be somewhere higher up on the line?’
Now that her brother Charles sits the throne, Anne is currently 16th in the line of succession. Her other brothers, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, are 8th and 13th in line respectively.
Reports have emerged that Anne and King Charles were the only two royal family members to be at the Queen’s bedside during her final hours.
Prince William and Prince Harry, among other royals, were unable to make it to Balmoral in time to say their final goodbyes.
The Princess remains one of Britain’s most popular royals, whose work ethic and approach to public visits having been widely praised over the years.
Many have also praised her for ensuring that her two children, Olympic silver-medallist Zara Tindall and businessman Peter Phillips, find their own way in life, rather than enjoy a life of luxury.
Anne has even been fined on three occasions for speeding after insisting on driving herself to various public engagements down the years.
