photos: Google removes one of the most important backup feature from Photos app – Times of India
Google has reportedly made some changes to the backup feature in the Photos app. The feature change is related to video backup in the app. AndroidCentral has reported that the search engine giant has removed the option to exclude videos while taking backup over a cellular connection.
The company has not made any official announcement regarding the change. The feature earlier allowed users to prevent Google Photos from backing up videos on cellular internet connection.
This means now there’s no way for users to avoid video backup and prevent it from consuming a large chunk of daily data quota available as a part of the plan. Most connections today offer unlimited data, but there’s a certain daily data limit like 1.5GB or 2GB, post which the speed reduces.
Before this, the Photos app offered a separate option for backing up photos and videos and also had the option to backup videos only when Wi-Fi is connected. After the recent changes, a new feature has been added that allows users to set daily backup limits for the mobile network, but not for videos and photos separately.
The feature is reportedly a system-side update and might reflect for all in the coming days. However, this change will definitely increase the cost of backing up photos and videos on Google Photos especially when there’s no Wi-Fi connectivity available.
