PhonePe has a ‘warning’ for Congress in Madhya Pradesh – Times of India

During the recently held elections in Karnataka, the Congress party quite successfully used the “PayCM” in its campaign. Congress put up posters of the then Karnataka CM with “PayCM” as a key element. Now, the party is attempting to do the same in the run-up to assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. This time it’s PhonePe, which has been mentioned in the posters put by Congress. However, it seems that the company in question isn’t too happy with the use of its name and has raised objections.
In a couple of tweets, PhonePe expressed its displeasure. “PhonePe objects to the unauthorised usage of its brand logo, by any third party, be it political or non-political. We are not associated with any political campaign or party,” said the company in a tweet.

The posters that have been put up have the PhonePe logo. “The PhonePe logo is a registered trademark of our company and any unauthorized use of PhonePe’s intellectual property rights will invite legal action,” said PhonePe in a tweet. The company has requested the party to remove the posters. “We humbly request @INCMP to remove the posters and banners featuring our brand logo and colour,” said the company in a tweet.
On the Congress party’s Twitter account, some of the posters were shared. So far the tweet with the posters has not been removed and it’s not clear whether the party has removed the posters or not.
The posters were reportedly in response to a similar campaign being run by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP had put posters against former chief minister Kamal Nath.
