Phillip Schofield’s quip on ‘getting away with career’ to younger lover exposed

In a leaked video from 2014, Phillip Schofield, 61, joked to his younger lover about “getting away with it” while discussing his future on This Morning.

The presenter, who last week admitted to an “unwise, but not illegal” affair with a much younger male ITV colleague, can be seen on the This Morning set with his lover in the showreel.

The clip, which has been seen by Express.co.uk, shows Phillip being asked what he’d be doing in three years’ time by his lover, who was working as an ITV production assistant at the time.

Phillip replied in reference to This Morning: “Well, if I’m still getting away with it, I’ll be a happy man.”

In the video, Phillip had been joking about not being able to “find a way out” of fronting the ITV show, after working there for 12 years at the time.

The This Morning crew member then joins Phillip’s co-presenter Holly Willoughby on the show’s sofa to ask for her opinion on his presenting skills.

Holly praised her young colleague that he was “very good”, before warning “there’ll be trouble” if Phil caught him sitting on the sofa.

“Well that was very good, actually,” Holly told him.

She then added: “Tell you what, don’t get too comfy sitting on this sofa – if Phil spots you after that there’ll be trouble.”

The production assistant then exclaims: “There you go, watch out Scofe,” to which Phillip replied: “Oi, you b*****d!”

Holly denies that she knew about Phillip’s relationship with the production assistant, whom he met when he was a teenager, prior to her former co-presenter’s admission last week.

She wrote in a statement: “When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not.

“It’s been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie.”

Phillip was still married to his wife, and mother to his two daughters, Stephanie Lowe when he had the affair with his colleague.

The star spoke out on the affair for the first time in a statement, in which he revealed: “I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague.

“Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship.

“That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over. When I chose to come out I did so entirely for my own wellbeing. Nobody ‘forced’ me out.

“Neither I nor anyone else, to my knowledge, has ever issued an injunction, super or otherwise, about my relationship with this colleague, he was never moved on or sacked by or because of me.

“In an effort to protect my ex-colleague I haven’t been truthful about the relationship. But my recent, unrelated, departure from This Morning fuelled speculation and raised questions which have been impacting him, so for his sake it is important for me to be honest now.

“I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.

“I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me.

“I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it.”
