Phillip Schofield’s ex-lover claims ‘he was never asked’ by ITV about affair
Phillip Schofield’s former lover has claimed “he was never asked” by ITV bosses about his relationship with the This Morning star.
The former runner on This Morning claims he was never quizzed about his relationship with Phillip Schofield despite ITV executives insisting that an investigation involving both men took place back in 2020.
In recent weeks Phillip has come under intense scrutiny for his relationship with co-host Holly Willoughby and his conduct off camera.
On Friday, the picture-perfect image of This Morning has come crashing down as Phillip made an admission to having an affair with a much younger male colleague while he was still married.
Phillip shared the bombshell after he announced that he is stepping away from ITV for good.
Now, after ITV bosses insisted that they held an investigation into the rumours of the affair between Phillip and his unnamed This Morning colleague, the young man in question had denied claims of ever been approached or questioned by the said bosses.
According to Mail Online, the former This Morning employee has vowed to not lie about the relationship, which Phillip described as “unwise but not illegal”.
Sources told the publication that the former production assistant insists that “he was never asked” about the romance, while another ITV insider said that “everybody just knew about it”.
“It’s time for some truths to be told now, this has been brushed under the carpet for so long and it has to come to an end.
“The younger man has got to the point now where he won’t lie for anyone but actually, he says he was never asked by ITV about any relationship. It is time that people were held to account, or at the very least explain themselves,” they said.
However, an ITV spokesman said yesterday: “Both parties were questioned.”
It comes after an ITV boss has today denied claims mistakes were made during an investigation into Phillip Schofield’s affair with a younger co-worker – after the 2020 enquiry found the claims “did not go beyond hearsay and rumour”.
After his announcement, ITV confirmed an investigation into “rumours” surrounding their lead presenter took place three years ago but Phillip “repeatedly denied” the affair.
Meanwhile, Holly Willoughby has maintained she knew nothing of the relationship that has rocked the show as some former ITV stars have questioned her role on This Morning.
Speaking to The Mirror, a source said that Holly has no intentions of quitting This Morning, and hopes to “ride out the scandal”.
“The only way in which Holly would ever choose to leave the ITV programme is if the show itself was axed as a whole,” the source claimed.
“Holly wants to stay at This Morning as long as she can and hopes to ride out the scandal. Other stars like Stephen Mulhern are being approached to fill in for Phil when she returns.
“Some are reluctant to go in and face angry viewers,” the source said.
“Holly is determined to stay put – the only reason she would leave now is if This Morning is axed. She has absolutely no plans to leave.”
