Peter Rosenberg rips caller offended by his Method Man background: ‘Racist piece of garbage’
Wu-Tang Clan ain’t nothing to mess with, and neither is ESPN New York host Peter Rosenberg.
Caller Greg from Ronkonkoma learned that lesson the hard way on Monday when the sports talk caller chimed in to complain about a picture of rapper Method Man in the background of the YES simulcast of “The Michael Kay Show.”
The image had been hanging behind Rosenberg and drew the ire of Greg, who had originally called in to discuss Harrison Bader’s return to St. Louis.
“I got this Method Man in my background,” Greg said. “What’s that got to do with sports radio?”
Kay appeared to be confused by the comment before the caller pointed out that it was in the background of Rosenberg’s shot on the TV simulcast.
“It just bothers me,” Greg continued.
Kay suggested that if it was such a distraction, the Long Island-based caller should tune in on the radio and forgo the TV.
That’s when Rosenberg jumped in to ask the question on everyone’s mind: Why does that bother Greg so much?
“You know his arrest record? I’m here for sports information,” the caller stated.
That’s when Rosenberg appeared to lose his cool.
The longtime Kay Show co-host, who also works for Hot 97, put his face in his hand and exclaimed “oh my god” before laying into the caller.
“Greg, Greg shut your mouth,” an infuriated Rosenberg replied after Greg called Method Man a “thug.” “Shut your stupid, ignorant mouth. You know nothing about Method Man. He’s a thug? Shut your stupid racist mouth, Greg. How about that?
“Shut up. No more for you Greg.”
The sports talk host continued to lay into the caller as he tried to deflect the caller’s comments.
“You’re a racist Greg!” Rosenberg said. “Anyone that would look at a picture if Method Man and be offended. When you look up what he’s contributed to the world and you want to call him a thug? You’re a racist piece of garbage.”
Rosenberg then instructed his producer to hang up on Greg and told him to “shove it.”
The ESPN New York host wasn’t done with the interaction just yet even after he signed off of the show.
Rosenberg responded to a few tweets and asked his followers “did I go too hard or not hard enough” on a quote tweet of a video of the exchange.
Rosenberg’s tongue-lashing of a caller comes a week after fellow co-host Don La Greca lit into a caller last last month who had been complaining about the Yankees no winning early enough despite the team taking two out of three games the previous nights.
