Nothing says ‘happy coronation’ like a face carved in fruit.

There are plenty of ways to show your excitement for the upcoming coronation – many of which, it seems, involve food.

First, we had a chocolate head made to look like King Charles, and now a woman has put his face in a watermelon.

The work of fruit carving artist Nasima Khatun, 45, who also works as an accountant, from Berkshire, has caught the eye of many.

She has been carving art into various fruits for the last 12 years, showing her skill in this unique art form.

Due to living in the Royal borough, Nasima loves getting involved with the Royal festivities and is a huge fan of King Charles’ work on environmental topics.

Nasima said: ‘I love national celebrations – I feel that they bring people together and create a reason for people to be in a festive mood.

‘I admire King Charles’ work on environmental issues such as building sustainable housing and regenerating neighbourhoods.

‘My biggest fear was getting [the watermelon] wrong, as I am quite self-critical.

The historic Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will take place in Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

‘I worry that I will get the King’s face wrong, or I’ll slice the wrong section. But as the carving unfolded, it was looking more and more like his face.’

She said that fruit carving is a unique technique which requires years of practice.

‘If I am carving a rose on a watermelon,’ she said, ‘then I will make the incisions on the watermelon quite deep to reveal the red flesh inside.

‘When I carve a portrait, I need to ensure I am only scraping the dark green skin off to reveal the facial feature with the light green section in the middle.’
