People are now just realizing how a few simple tips can save them from dangerous hackers obtaining important information on their computers.

Just like you have a password for your computer, you should have a password for your WiFi network.

Encrypting your network is easy. All you need to do is go to the “settings” menu and make a password for your WiFi, according to the tech support company, the ame group.

When choosing a password, be careful not to use something that others can guess like your name or the names of others in your household.

Instead, create a password using a combination of letters and numbers, also known as an alphanumeric password.

It’s also best to avoid writing the password down in a place that’s easily accessible to others.

Another common mistake is not changing your router’s default settings.

Depending on how tech-savvy you are, setting up your WiFi can be challenging, but it’s crucial that you take the extra time to change your default settings.

Change your router’s IP address and the default login password when setting up your new router, the ame group advised.

When creating your router’s IP address, make sure to not use the same IP address of your modem that’s provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

To change the IP address of your router, you need to use the setup interface of your Local Area Network (LAN), according to the ame group.

And to create a new IP login password, go to “Tools” or “Administration.”

You should also avoid using a remote-access feature to manage and use File Transfer Protocol (FTP) when you are away from your house, the ame group advises.

A remote-access feature allows network storage on an external hard drive for routers with a USB port.

Only turn this feature on if you understand what you are doing with it and if you do turn it on, make sure you use all the proper restrictions.

Another feature you should turn off is known as the UP-n-P, according to the ame group.

This feature can be dangerous in the hands of hackers because a device can use it to change router settings without needing to log into the Web Interface.

It’s also important to regularly update your router’s firmware, but when you do this, make sure to back up your router settings first, the ame group advises.

Some firmware updates reset router settings after updating, so you must back up the settings beforehand.

While the router is updating, do not interrupt it.

Interrupting the update may cause your router to become permanently dysfunctional and you will be risking your network security.
