Pensioner’s money saving tip could save you £50 a month
While the cost of living crisis is making life tough for many Britons, pensioners are one of the worst hit groups because they typically have just a lower income to live on. That said, the older generation have usually picked up some useful money-saving tips over the years that could help the younger generation save money too.
Bristol resident, David Harrison, shared his number one tip for making savings on the food shop this winter.
The 80-year-old pensioner and his wife save £50 a month by batch cooking and own two freezers – even though there’s only two of them.
When asked how he was managing during the cost of living crisis, David said: “Well I’ve noticed that everything is going up dramatically.
“We’re obviously going for more special offers than we used to so we’re being a bit more careful.”

Elaine Wishart, 54, said: “It’s open to anyone and you pay £3.50 a week and it’s what supermarkets are about to throw away.
“I reckon each week I get about £20 to £25 worth of stuff for £3.50 and you never know what you are getting.”
Suzanne Mulholland set up The Batch Lady blog sharing tips and recipes to help others save £1,000 a year by batch cooking.
She told Express.co.uk: “If you prepare in advance then you automatically stop panic buying and naturally save money.”
