BBC’s Peaky Blinders fans have been treated to a first look at Stephen Graham in action and, judging by the picture, the docker shouldn’t expect a warm welcome.

The Birmingham-based drama made its highly anticipated return to the small screen, as fans prepared to watch the Shelby family facing their toughest challenges yet.

Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy) and Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) were reunited once more, with fans hailing the moment as ‘pure magic’, and newcomers Diana Mitford (Amber Anderson) and Jack Nelson (James Frecheville) were also introduced.

If that wasn’t enough, viewers can look forward to Line of Duty’s Stephen making his debut as Hayden Stagg.

The official snap teasing the upcoming episode shows the Boardwalk Empire actor engaging in a pretty intense stare off with Tommy’s father Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson).

Sunday’s episode synopsis reads: ‘Faced with devastating news, Tommy goes on a quest to discover who it was that placed a curse on his family. In Birmingham, Ada takes charge, and Arthur takes on some new recruits.’

Speaking about Stephen’s arrival, creator Steven Knight said fans might be surprised by the Liverpudlian.

‘I hope they’ll be surprised. What I can say, he’s from Liverpool, he told Radio Times.

‘He’s speaking in his own accent, which I think Stephen enjoyed,’ he added.

Putting Lord Sugar’s confusion aside, Peaky Blinders had an impressive 3.8million viewers for the first episode, making it the most successful launch in the show’s history. In comparison, the series five launch garnered 3.7m viewers.

Fans were also emotional as the show honoured late cast member Helen McCrory.

The actress, who played Polly Gray in the series, died from cancer last year at the age of 54.

The late star’s character was written out in episode one of the final chapter, titled Black Day, with Tommy Shelby breaking down in tears after being informed that his aunt Polly has been killed, with her body then delivered to his home.

Peaky Blinders continues on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
