MANILA, Philippines—Phoenix coach Jamike Jarin heaped huge praise toward promising bruiser Larry Muyang after Phoenix’s 100-93 win over Meralco in the PBA on Tour at Ynares Sports Center in Pasig on Sunday.

After tallying a double-double to the tune of 13 points and 12 rebounds, Jarin was very much delighted to see one of his young guns flourish, even if it’s just the preseason.

In fact, he went as far as to say that the Letran product has the makings to become a future star in the league.

“The good thing about it is, Larry is very young. Bright future for these kids and bright future for the franchise of Phoenix,” said Jarin.

“Larry [Muyang] can shoot, [he’s] very athletic and quick, these are the future of not only Phoenix but also the PBA.”

With only two years of experience in the professional league, the 26-year-old Muyang is still finding his footing with the Fuel Masters.

In last season’s Governors’ Cup, the stocky forward averaged 6.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per outing.

Playing more minutes in the preseason, Muyang is showing what he is truly capable of averaging 12 points and 12 rebounds in the Fuel Masters’ two victories so far.

Muyang’s emergence has also coincided with Raul Soyud’s resurgence under Jarin’s guidance. Like Muyang, Soyud notched a double-double of his own with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

The frontcourt tandem of Muyang and Soyud has been making wonders for Phoenix in the preseason.

Jarin, however, has yet to decide whether to play both Muyang and Soyud at the same time or not when the real season tips off.

“You can see how they played together but it’s still up in the air. It’s how they’re going to improve as time goes by and how they would complement each other.”
