PBA: NLEX survives Phoenix in OT for back-to-back wins
MANILA, Philippines–NLEX got a streak going late Thursday night, surviving Phoenix Super LPG in overtime, 114-108, in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
Calvin Oftana and JR Quinahan came through in the extra session, making crucial plays on both ends as the Road Warriors rose to 4-2 overall.
“Games like these toughen you up, make your team better together. Which is why we needed to win,” said head coach Yeng Guiao.
“I just hope this goes on. But we really worked for it. My players simply didn’t give up,” he added.
Oftana finished with 22 points, 10, rebounds, and seven assists to lead the way for NLEX. JR Quinahan added 21 while three others chipped in at least 12 each to frustrate a struggling Fuel Masters crew that is a star short.
Matthew Wright turned in 19 points, Tyler Tio 18, Sean Anthony and Larry Muyang had 17 each for Phoenix which dropped to 2-5.
NLEX plays Magnolia this Saturday at the Big Dome.
Phoenix, meanwhile, goes up against resurgent Blackwater this Friday.
