PBA: Converge’s Jeo Ambohot gets confidence boost with big game
MANILA, Philippines — Despite his 31-point explosion, Jeo Ambohot remains eager to improve for Converge in the upcoming PBA season late this year.
The third overall pick of last year’s rookie draft played his best game as a FiberXer so far, firing eight three-pointers to torch TNT Tropang Giga, 109-84, on Wednesday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The 6-foot-7 forward played inspired four days after his wife gave birth to their first-born son, Waylon Jaize.
“Our child was born last June 17 that’s why I’m inspired,” Ambohot told reporters in Filipino. “I still lack some sleep but it’s worth it.”
Despite missing some time in practice and lacking sleep, Ambohot still left everything on the floor, which impressed Converge coach Aldin Ayo.

“My coaches always remind me not to be contented. Whatever the result of my game tonight, I still need to give my 100 percent in practice,” he said in Filipino. “This On Tour, coach Aldin has been giving me an opportunity and he always reminds me not to be afraid to commit mistakes and be confident in everything I do to help the team.”
The NCAA Season 97 Finals MVP from Letran admitted he was displeased by his limited playing time in his first PBA season but he realized that he needs more improvement and learn more from his coaches Ayo and Danny Ildefonso.
“At first I was just thinking about myself, that’s why I felt bad. But I realized, I was the one lacking. I have a loft of insufficiencies that why I wasn’t being used,” Ambohot said.
“Coach Aldin and coach Danny reminded me to have more confidence when I take my shoes. They help me during practice; Coach Danny feeds me the ball and he guides me. I’m thankful for the coaches for always guiding us.”
With the FiberXers winning two straight games to improve to a 3-3 record, Ambohot wants to make the most of the preseason, where they will also train with Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy and two Slovenian coaches.
