Paul Sorvino’s wife slams Oscars as he’s left out of Memoriam segment

On Sunday evening, the Oscars’ In Memoriam segment was led by an emotional John Travolta who paid tribute to his late Grease co-star Olivia Newton-John. Lenny Kravitz then took to the stage to perform his 2004 hit Calling All Angels while images of late Hollywood greats were displayed onscreen.

Among those included in the tribute were Robbie Coltrane, Angela Lansbury, James Caan and Burt Bacharach.

However, the tribute left out a number of stars, including Leslie Jordan, Anne Heche, Tom Sizemore and Paul Sorvino.

Paul’s wife, Dee Dee Benkie, has now demanded an apology from the Academy for leaving the Romeo and Juliet star out.

She said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight: “Paul Sorvino was one of the greatest actors in cinematic history in Hollywood. It is unconscionable that he would be left out of the In Memoriam segment of the Oscars.

“Shame on the Academy if this is not corrected. Mistakes are made, this was a big one. Please do something to make it right.”

Paul’s daughter Mira, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1996, also hit out at the Academy.

Taking to Twitter, the 55-year-old Mighty Aphrodite actress raged: “It is baffling beyond belief that my beloved father and many other amazing, brilliant departed actors were left out.

“The Oscars forgot about Paul Sorvino, but the rest of us never will!”
