Paul Parker slams ‘overrated’ Chelsea and ‘lumbering’ Kalidou Koulibaly
Paul Parker has slammed ‘overrated’ Premier League club Chelsea and their ‘lumbering’ defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
With the World Cup now over, the Blues turn their attention back to the Premier League and host Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
Chelsea struggled before the World Cup break and find themselves eighth in the table ahead of the restart.
Their poor start followed a period of drastic change at the west London club after Todd Boehly replaced previous owner Roman Abramovich in the summer.
The American businessman spent around £280m on players and also changed head coaches in September – sacking Thomas Tuchel and brining in Graham Potter from Brighton.
One player that arrived at Chelsea this summer was 31-year-old Senegal international centre-back Koulibaly – signed from Italian side Napoli – but Parker has not been convinced at what he has seen from him so far.
‘Honestly, I think that Chelsea’s team is overrated,’ former Manchester United defender Parker told BeMyBet.
‘I never really understood why they signed Kalidou Koulibaly. He is lumbering and he is not doing anything.
‘They don’t have a great goalkeeper or a great centre forward. N´Golo Kante is past his prime and Jorginho is not performing at all.
‘I really don’t see them being able to compete to finish in the top four. The midfield is lacking creativity.
‘Mason Mount still has a lot of work to do to prove people wrong.
‘I think that they are lucky to have Graham Potter but they don’t have a single Graham Potter player in their squad.’
Former Chelsea defender William Gallas also aimed a recent dig at Koulibaly and described him as a ‘panic buy’.
‘Chelsea were linked with [Josko] Gvardiol last summer and they should have got him then,’ Gallas told Genting Casino. ‘Instead, they got [Wesley] Fofana and Koulibaly.
‘Chelsea panicked in the summer. They saw some players and put a lot of money towards them when for me, they did not meet their value.’
