Paul O’Grady’s husband suffers another tragedy as beloved pet dies

The late Paul O’Grady’s husband, Andre Portasio, 42, has announced the tragic news that their pet goats have died today.

The couple gave homes to many rescued animals, including Maleficent and Beebo, who were Black Benal goats.

The death of their beloved animals comes just two months after the presenter died at the age of 67.

The late entertainer’s spouse penned on Instagram: “Bad news that keep on coming… a very sad day at our our house.

Andre was swiftly inundated with messages of support as celebrity pals and fans alike flooded the comment section as they offered their condolences.

Alan Carr, who goes by Chattyman on social media, penned: “So sorry – awful just awful.”

Melanie Sykes wrote: “Sending so much love,” while Amanda Holden shared an emoji with a tear.

The sad news comes just weeks after Paul died at his home in Kent on March 28 at the age of 67.

A statement shared by family at the time of Paul’s death revealed the Lily Savage star had died “unexpectedly but peacefully”.

The official death certificate has now confirmed that Paul died from sudden cardiac arrhythmia.

The entertainer is set to be given the posthumous freedom of his home region.

Councillors will vote next week on whether to award the honorary freedom of the borough to the Birkenhead-born TV presenter.

In a statement, Wirral Council said: “Since the sad passing of Birkenhead’s legendary entertainer Paul O’Grady in March, we’ve heard the many asks for us to celebrate his legacy and we agree.

“The first step in doing so will see councillors consider a recommendation to bestow the star with the honour of freedom of the borough.

“This would recognise his years entertaining the nation, along with his dedicated activism and charity work.

“We are also looking at other ways to pay tribute to the legacy of both Paul and Lily – more details will be shared as soon as we have them.”
