Paul O’Grady’s family share ‘sadness’ over difficult decision
Paul O’Grady died “unexpectedly but peacefully” on March 28 as tributes poured in for the much-loved presenter and comedian.
The Lily Savage star remained active on his official Instagram account right up until his death at the age of 67.
In a candid message shared on the picture-sharing site over the weekend, the decision has been made to keep his account open to the public for the time being.
It read: “Dear all. It is with great sadness that we write this post.
“As most of you who follow Paul here on Instagram will know by his humour that he always managed his own account. He enjoyed being in close contact with his audience.”

The post continued: “After some consideration, we’ve decided to keep the account open for now in order to keep you all informed of any Paul related things.
“We wish to emphasise that this is the only personal account for Paul O’Grady with his blue tick so please ignore any imposters.”
The heartbreaking post was accompanied with a picture of Paul cradling a chicken.
Social media users flocked to the comment section as they urged the family to keep his Instagram account open.
Lisa wrote: “I would love his account to be kept open so we can get updates on all his animals, I loved hearing about them, especially his dogs.
“I hope they are all doing ok without him. I absolutely loved Paul’s Instagram posts, I’ve been through them all numerous times since he died, some of his videos are hilarious and I’m so sad there won’t be anymore. RIP Paul.”
Becky agreed: “Keep his account open forever! So people can come and see him / hear him from the posts he posted all over the years.”
Mrs Prickle shared: “I agree wholeheartedly to keep it open. Paul was a legend and this is somewhere he would always be remembered, not that any of us will forget him, Lily or his kindness to animals.”
Debbie added: “I am still feeling so sad to know that we will never hear from this wonderful man again. He was one of life’s truly lovely human beings and his loss will be felt for a long time.
“My thoughts are with his husband and his family and all his animals that must also be missing him so much, as I know that dogs especially do pine for their owners.”
Meanwhile, viewers were left in tears as his friends spoke about their memories of him in For the Love of Paul O’Grady which aired on Sunday night.
At the end of the poignant show, the channel included a tribute to his ex, Brendan Murphy, with “RIP Brendan Murphy” in the credits.
He died two days before Paul’s 50th birthday at Charing Cross Hospital.
