Paul O’Grady’s family mark 68th birthday in bittersweet post

The much-beloved TV personality Paul O’Grady’s unexpected death earlier this year stunned fans, friends and family alike.

Ever since, the star’s Instagram account has been run by one of Paul’s loved ones, sharing updates and mourning in tune with fans.

On Wednesday morning, the account shared a bittersweet tribute, paired with a black and white snap of the late celebrity captioned: “Remembering our Paul.

“If today we were luck still to have him with us, he would certainly not be amused at turning 68.

“But we will celebrate his birthday with a drink or two. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAUL – thinking of you always.”

Within minutes the post had thousands of likes and was inundated with tributes in the comments section.

One follower gushed: “Heavenly birthday Paul still seems surreal ur not here anymore but heaven has gained a pure saint.”

Another fan declared Paul will “never, ever, forgotten! A wonderful human !!”

Hundreds of comments wished the comedian a “happy heavenly birthday”, sharing how much they “missed and loved” Paul.

Paul’s husband Andre Portasio shared a collection of snaps on the social media site, making fans emotional as he wrote: “HAPPY HEAVENLY BIRTHDAY. Myself and dogs miss you lots and we can only wish you were here with us. Love you always.”

On Twitter, Paul’s celebrity pals shared their own tribute to the late star, as actress Jayne Tunnicliffe shared: “Thinking of Paul O’Grady on his 68th birthday and remembering him with love.”

Just one week ago the Instagram account revealed that Paul had received a posthumous award that would have left him “surprised but very pleased”.

Wirral council, the constituency where Paul was born and spent most of his life, have honoured the star with the Freedom of the Borough for his “exceptional contribution”.

The account shared that Paul’s family were “over the moon” with the news, adding: ”The boy from Birkenhead! Paul would no doubt be surprised but very pleased with this honour.”

Fans have also praised Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood over recent weeks as the star valiantly cancelled his summer plans to step in on the Annie musical tour.

Craig and Paul were sharing the starring role of Miss Hannigan, but chose to take on all of Paul’s performances following his death.

He recently tweeted declaring that “every performance dedicated to the late but very very great Paul O’Grady’s” adding: “We miss him terribly.”
