Paul O’Grady’s daughter ‘in tears’ as she’s ‘taken aback’ by tribute to dad

Sharon Mousley, who is the daughter of the late comedian and entertainer Paul O’Grady, was “taken aback” after catching sight of a drawing of her dad that she described as “absolutely gorgeous”.

The touching tribute apparently reduced her to tears after she spied it outside a Liverpool café.

She visited Lucy In The Sky in Liverpool city centre last week, where a colourful drawing of the icon could be seen, showing Paul as Lily Savage, his drag queen alter ego.

Olivia Dolan, a 23-year-old who works at Lucy In The Sky, told the Liverpool Echo how delighted Sharon was with the tribute.

The café worker said: “She came over to the counter. She did look a bit teary eyed, she’d been a little bit upset but she was happy.”

“She was like, ‘I’m sorry, I’m just taken aback, that’s my dad in the window.’ We couldn’t really believe it,” Olivia added.

“She was just over the moon, she said [the drawing was] absolutely gorgeous.”

The artwork was created by Lewis McVey, who is the nephew of the café’s owner Lucy Jeffers.

Olivia later continued: “It must be lovely for her to realise how loved her dad was. Everyone around here remembers him. With Pride coming up, it’s a big thing.”

“It was lovely that she was happy to see it. It must be heart-breaking for her,” she added.

“She was happy for us to get a picture of her with it outside when we asked.”

Sharon had her picture taken next to the drawing, which was then shared to Lucy In The Sky’s Instagram story with the caption: “We had the honour of having Paul’s daughter visit. She was very emotional when she saw our tribute. She loved it.”

Much-loved presenter Paul died at his Kent home on March 28 this year after suffering a cardiac arrest brought on by heart disease.

The star is survived by his partner Andre Portasio, who shared a statement at the time reading: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.”

“He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.”
