It turns out thirst tweeting about your TV crush can really get results.
The pair attended the 2021 LACMA Art + Film Gala, which was presented by Gucci, and naturally dressed in attire by the fashion house.
Paul, 25, looked dashing in a tuxedo and bow tie, while Phoebe, 27, showed off her quirky style in a floor length tartan skirt with a lace cream blouse.
The pair shared sweet glances as they posed together on the red carpet, with Phoebe resting her head on the actor’s shoulder at one point.
They later took pictures with Paul’s The Lost Daughter director and co-star, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Dakota Johnson respectively.
Phoebe also tweeted from the event about her date, writing: ‘paul thinks thousand island is called hundred years sauce.’
While Paul and Phoebe haven’t confirmed they are an item, rumours began swirling last year during lockdown when Irish actor Paul became an international star after playing Connell in the global hit Normal People.
Phoebe made no secret of being a fan of the show and of Paul, with the Kyoto singer calling the actor a ‘cute boy’ in an interview with NME and saying she ‘got a little pitter-patter in my heart when I saw’ that he followed her on Instagram.
She later tweeted: ‘Finished Normal People and now I’m sad and horny oh wait’, to which Paul replied: ‘I’m officially dead.’
Phoebe responded: ‘nooo don’t die your [sic] so talented aha.’
Paul later joined the singer on and Instagram Live, before Phoebe apparently flew to Ireland in July 2020 to see him.
The pair were spotted having brunch at a cafe in Kinsale, County Cork, and later that year, Paul confirmed he had a girlfriend who had been somebody to ‘lean on’ during his ascent to stardom.
Was Phoebe this mystery girlfriend all along? It’s looking more and more likely.
It was a huge 2020 for both Paul and Phoebe – while Paul was nominated for an Emmy for his performance in Normal People, Phoebe was nominated for four Grammys included best new artist.
Talk about a power couple.
And it doesn’t look like things are about to slow down for them either, with Phoebe set to play a host of festivals, including Mad Cool and Lollapalooza, next summer.
Meanwhile, Paul has filmed three movies – The Lost Daughter, Carmen and God’s Creatures – and has been cast to play Josh O’Connor’s lover in the new drama The History of Sound.
