Paul Merson believes if Arsenal beat Liverpool on Sunday they can win the Premier League title – but it will be a very tough game.

Arsenal head to Anfield looking to at least maintain their eight point lead over Manchester City, with the Citizens set to travel to bottom of the table Southampton on Saturday.

The Gunners have played a game more than their title rivals however, and arguably have a trickier run to the end of the season with the trip to Liverpool followed by games against Newcastle, Chelsea and Brighton.

And that’s no even mentioning the match at the Etihad on 26th April.

Pep Guardiola’s men also have experience in these situations, having edged Liverpool in title races that went down to the wire in 2019 and 2022, while this the first time since 2010 where Arsenal have a real chance at winning the league.

Mikel Arteta’s side are many people’s favourites to end their 19-year wait for a league title, and Merson believes that the clash at Liverpool will decide their fate.

He told Sportskeeda: ‘This game is a worry for Arsenal. Liverpool did not play [Mohamed] Salah, [Virgil] Van Dijk, [Andy] Robertson, or [Trent] Alexander-Arnold against Chelsea.

‘Jurgen Klopp could be saving these players for Arsenal. I’d be shocked if they don’t play this game. It seems like the Arsenal game at home is more important to Jurgen Klopp, and that would worry me as an Arsenal fan.

‘If Arsenal win this game, I think they win the Premier League. They still have a game against an excellent Newcastle side, but Arsenal won’t have to beat them if they can get the better of Liverpool.

‘If they win this game, they would have to have a major meltdown to lose the title race.

‘Jurgen Klopp wants his Liverpool side to play a certain way, and his team doesn’t have the legs to pull it off at the moment. It wasn’t too long ago that Liverpool were smashing Manchester United at home.

‘This is going to be a difficult game for Arsenal, and a victory here would seal the Premier League title for me.’
