Chelsea spent around £30m to sign the Senegal international from Spanish side Villarreal last month.
Jackson, 22, scored 13 goals in 38 games for the La Liga outfit last season, including nine in the final eight league games.
Arsenal hero and Chelsea fan Merson has been ‘very surprised’ by Jackson in pre-season and is convinced he will thrive for the Blues next season.
Chelsea finished just 12th in the Premier League last term but will hope to climb up the table under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
‘Nicolas Jackson looks like a great player,’ Merson told Sportskeeda. ‘He’s very lively and direct, and he doesn’t mess about.
‘He can score a goal and make a goal as well. He’s linked up very well with Mudryk so far, and both of them have been very impressive in pre-season.
‘I’ve been very surprised with Jackson so far. I know it’s only pre-season, but what I’ve seen has been ample.
‘He’s a handful, and I’d definitely say that he’s going to surprise people this season.’
Following Jackson’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: ‘He is a young player with big potential.
‘We believe he is ready for this next step in his career and look forward to him working with our new head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, and his Chelsea team-mates.’
The Senegalese star became Chelsea’s second signing of the summer following France forward Christopher Nkunku, who arrived from RB Leipzig.
Chelsea have now turned their attentions to signing a new midfielder and have made three unsuccessful bids for Brighton star Moises Caicedo.
