Paul Burrell labelled a ‘hypocrite’ over blistering attack on Prince Harry
The former butler and royal aide of Princess Diana, Paul Burrell, has found himself in the firing line after labelling Prince Harry a ‘hypocrite’.
While Harry’s autobiography isn’t due to be released until next week, it was leaked on Thursday after going on sale early in Spain.
It contains plenty of shocking bombshells revealing he took cocaine as a teenager and killed 25 people in Afghanistan, as well as details of his sex life, in which he detailed losing his virginity to an older woman in a field as a teenager.
However, one of the strongest revelations is a claim that Prince William physically attacked him in 2019 during a row about his marriage to Meghan Markle.
While relations between the Royals were already strained, questions are now being asked if this might be the final nail in the coffin, or if an invite will still be extended to Harry to attend his father’s coronation in May.
Speaking about the leaked extracts while appearing on Lorraine on Friday, Paul said he thought Harry would be welcomed, but he didn’t think he would go.
‘How can he possibly be sat in a House of God in Westminster Abbey where his mother’s funeral was to watch his father be crowned king,’ he said.
‘It seems a little hypocritical to me when what he’s been doing recently is dismantle the monarchy, not build it.
‘I think it will be very difficult for Harry and Meghan to be part of the coronation.’
However his comments riled many people up, who said that Paul constantly talking about the royal family didn’t make him much better.
‘Paul Burrell the same man who pretty much gave every bit of detail about Diana’s life after she was killed is now attacking Harry for his book about HIS life. What a hypocrite,’ one person posted on Twitter.
‘Paul Burrell has the audacity to say Harry is airing his dirty laundry. Paul has vomited everything he knew about Diana since she died,’ another added.
Another said he was ‘milking his connection’ to Diana.
Later in the interview, Paul added that if Princess Diana was alive, he believed she ‘would not agree with him pulling the ground from underneath his brother’s feet’.
‘Dirty laundry being aired in public – what does it serve?’ he questioned.
‘[There are] a lot of hurt people- it has to stop. If this keeps going there will never be a reconciliation.’
This isn’t the first time Paul has criticised Harry, telling Lorraine last month he had been ‘exploiting’ Diana’s image.
Paul said that sharing images of Diana that ‘William does not want to be seen again on television’, was sure to lead to conflict between the brothers.
The extract from the memoir comes after the release of a teaser trailer from an ITV interview in which Harry said he wants his father and brother back.
The interview, due to be released on Sunday, will be broadcast two days before Spare is published around the world.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
