Patty Mills’ sizzling three-point form continues

Patty Mills continues to prove he is one of the NBA’s best when shooting from deep, while a young Aussie star enjoyed a career-best performance.

Fresh from a record-breaking performance for Brooklyn, Patty Mills has continued his mind-boggling scoring run of late as the Nets ran out 124-108 victors over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Australia star finished with 18 points and has now posted double figures in 17 of his last 19 games.

It wasn’t quite the same as his festive blitz against the Los Angeles Lakers when he set an NBA record for the most three-pointers made in a game on Christmas Day, but the 33-year-old still had plenty of success from deep as he nailed six from 12 three-point attempts.

The 33-year-old found himself wide open on the edge of the arc on multiple occasions, with one notable moment occurring midway through the third quarter.

Nets superstar James Harden drove towards the basket at speed while both Nets and Clippers players crowded his path to the basket.

Mills lay in wait on the right side of the court knowing Harden would find him somehow, which is exactly what transpired.

The Canberra native could have made a sandwich before letting his three-point shot fly, such was the time he had to shoot the ball.

Harden led the way once again for Brooklyn, scoring 39 points and dishing out 15 assists throughout the 40 minutes he was on the hardwood.

The Nets’ win helps the team continue its reign at the top of the Eastern Conference, while the Clippers, who were without star duo Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, stay in fifth spot in the Western Conference.

YOUNGSTER ENJOYS CAREER-HIGHS

Australian youngster Josh Green enjoyed his best NBA performance to date for the Dallas Mavericks, coming agonisingly close to his first double-double.

Green scored nine points and dished out ten assists — both career-highs — throughout his 26 minutes on the hardwood as the former Arizona standout continues to get vital time for the Mavs.

The 21-year-old was making his first appearance since Dallas’ narrow loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on December 15 having entered the league’s health and safety protocols.

Perhaps Green’s best moment of the night came midway through the final quarter, as he collected a bounce pass from Kristaps Porzingis next to the free-throw line before taking a two steps and launching through the air untouched to score an elegant layup.

INGLES TRIUMPHS IN BATTLE OF THE BOOMERS

Joe Ingles got the better of his Australian compatriot Jock Landale as the Utah jazz triumphed over the San Antonio Spurs 110-104.

Ingles enjoyed his 12th double-figure scoring haul of the season, finishing the game with 17 points as well as three rebounds and assists.

The 34-year-old sizzled from three-point range as well, nailing four of his seven attempts from distance.

Ingles opened his account with a gorgeous shot from outside the arc that was executed to perfection.

He waited in the upper left corner of the court before drifting across the perimeter of the arc towards the centre where he received the ball and duly took the shot that caused barely a ripple in the net, such was the accuracy from deep.

Landale also had his own answer from deep in the first quarter.

Within minutes of being inserted into the game from the bench, Landale faked a move on his Jazz marker to drop back and find space to nail a wide-open three.

Unfortunately, it proved to be a rough shooting night for Landale, as he missed his next four attempts from range.

It was an uphill battle for the Spurs throughout the game, as Gregg Popovich’s team was seven points behind after the first quarter and never quite recovered.

The win for the Jazz is its fourth in a row and keeps the team in third spot of the Western Conference with a 24-9 record.

As for the Spurs, the defeat moves them to a 14-19 record as they sit in 10th place of the same conference.
