Patrick Stewart has broken his silence on his apparent appearance in the forthcoming Marvel movie Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

After the airing of the trailer for the forthcoming Marvel blockbuster, fans were abuzz with anticipation at the thought of Patrick reprising his role as Professor X in the X-Men movies after they were convinced they heard his voice.

Halfway through the trailer Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) looks intrigued as a character who is off-screen tells him: ‘We should tell him the truth.’

Fans were immediately sent into a frenzy by the mystery voice and rushed to social media to share their hunches that Patrick’s Professor X is back.

Patrick currently stars in Star Trek: Picard on Paramount, and while discussing the second season of his return as Jean Luc Picard with Comicbook.com, he also commented on the fan theories.

However, he remained enigmatic and he seemed to imply that it was simply someone else using his voice.

Speaking to the outlet, he said: ‘You know, people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago. So, I can’t be held responsible for that.’

He added: ‘Here’s the problem… If we had not made Logan, then yes, I would probably be ready to get into that wheelchair one more time and be Charles Xavier.’

‘But Logan changed all that. Here’s a tiny anecdote. The first time that Hugh [Jackman] and I saw the film in public was at the Berlin Film Festival, which is where the movie premiered.

‘Shortly after Xavier’s death scene, I found myself getting very emotional, but I had to keep a hold of myself because we were sitting in the middle of this cinema.

‘And then I saw Hugh’s hand come up to his eye and wipe away a tear. I thought, ‘Dammit, the b**ger’s crying. Oh, let it out, Patrick.’

It’s not known whether Patrick will return, but he’s already been rumoured to appear in the film.

Professor X’s presumed reappearance in the second Doctor Strange movie reportedly recasts the character as part of the shadowy Marvel organisation called the Illuminati.

Previous to that, Patrick admitted that he’d discussed reprising his role with American producer and President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige.

In an interview with Digital Spy, he said: ‘I met with Kevin Feige a couple of months ago and we had long, long conversations.’

‘And there have been moves and suggestions, which include Charles Xavier.’

Andrew Garfield was also coy about is appearance in Spider Man 2: No Way Home.

The actor denied his involvement, before proving the rumours to be true when the movie finally premiered in December.

Doctor Strange the Multiverse is released in cinemas May 6.
