Patrick Mahomes’ wife bought him lucky Lululemon underwear

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and wife Brittany Matthews are the NFL’s top power couple — and she’s his No. 1 fan.

The two have been together for over 11 years, since high school, and have together celebrated a Super Bowl title and his 10-year, $503 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as two children and a romantic wedding in Hawaii in March 2022.

Fitness trainer and influencer Matthews, 27, has revealed that she buys the QB lucky red underwear for game day — and how she deals with groupies and social media haters who branded her too “ugly” to be with the NFL star.

Matthews talked on a 2018 podcast Shootin’ It with Sophie Julia about how she and Mahomes met while growing up in Texas: “Come high school, me and Patrick really started clicking. We were best friends for a year and a half before we started dating.

“And then finally I started falling for him … He’s still my best friend to this day.”

She insists that friendship is key to the success of their relationship, explaining, “The big part of it we were best friends for so long so we know each other like the back of our hand and we are super close.

“We’ve had bumps in the road through college, but I know if he had wanted somebody better he would have got them a long time ago [It is about] trusting each other and staying strong to who you all are.

“People may think fame and money is getting to Patrick, but he’s literally the same person that I was with in high school.”

The former college athlete and soccer player, who offers workouts and motivation through her own website brittanylynnefitness.com, also spoke of her husband’s work ethic.

“He is at the facility 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. He comes home and he’s studying even more.

Matthews is a constant presence at his games – often in eye-catching red outfits to support her husband. And she’s become accustomed with game day superstitions.

“Every away game we that we’ve had right now I’ve sat in seat number 15, which is his [jersey] number,” she revealed on the podcast.

She even created a tradition for him.

“I bought Patrick lucky game day underwear — red underwear from Lululemon — and he’s worn them every game day.”

Matthews is known as an outspoken supporter of Mahomes on social media, which has led to some controversy — like when she once told a fan to shut up.

In 2021, Matthews clapped back at an Instagram troll who suggested she doesn’t have a career because of her NFL WAG status, replying: “and you follow me why?”.

She admitted on the podcast that her social media presence has led to backlash. “I had to change my phone number because people were texting me and harassing me and saying all these mean hateful things to me,” Matthews said. “[But] It’s hard because I have feelings just like they do.

“When they say stuff like I am ugly and Patrick could do better than me, they have no earthly idea what they are saying.”

She also has to deal with her fair share of NFL groupies, but shrugged it off in the podcast interview, saying, “I try not to worry about it or get involved. Obviously, his DMs are like always blown up, and I just don’t even look at them anymore because it’s, like, girls who are so annoying …

“Its always going to be a worry for any girl that’s dating an NFL boyfriend … but you just have to know that they [the girls] are there for that only and so you just can’t let it get to you.”

Which is easier said that done, she admitted.

“It is super hard. Even when we go out girls will come up and ask to take pictures and I just look the other way and let it happen.”

To keep busy, Matthews took a job at a Lululemon store for a while, but she’s now focused on her own fitness brand.

The couple, who now have daughter Sterling Skye, 23 months, and a 10-week-old son, Bronze, moved to Kansas City when Mahomes joined the team in 2017. But unlike some other WAGS, Matthews wanted a life outside the NFL, and got herself a part-time job at a Lululemon store.

More recently she has devoted herself to her fitness business, supporting Mahomes and bringing up their two kids.

“I help Patrick with whatever he needs…he always forgets stuff so I am always running to the stadium,” she said.

“I clean the house because he makes it a disaster every day. I cook, I clean, I do the laundry.”

Of her sacrifice during the football season, Matthews said, “I feel like I am like his manager in a way. His agent and I are so super close and so he knows that Patrick doesn’t like to deal with all the other stuff outside of football during the season.

“So I try to take on that, just to keep it off his hands and not make him worry about that other stuff. But I love it.”
