Patrick Guzman passes away; fellow celebrities pay tribute
Former actor Patrick Guzman, who starred in several films in the 1990s, has passed away, as confirmed by his friends in the entertainment industry.
Guzman, who was based in Canada, was remembered by actor-singer Ogie Alcasid with whom he worked in a number of projects together, as per the latter’s Instagram page on Saturday, June 17. Alcasid appeared to have taken down the post, but screenshots of it have already been re-uploaded on social media.
“Here you are Pat Guzman with Michael V. and Anjo Yllana in our younger years doing our photo shoot for our blockbuster hit ‘Mama’s Boys 2,’” the singer said.
“So shocked and sad that you have gone to heaven so suddenly. Rest now brother,” he added. “I will always remember the wonderful times we had while filming so many movies together. Be with Jesus.”
Actor-filmmaker Beverly Vergel also paid tribute to Guzman as she recalled his starring role in the comedy film she directed, through her Instagram page.
“Although you expressed reluctance because you haven’t acted onscreen for a long time—it was a full-length comedy film—I assured you that there’s nothing to worry about because I’ll run a workshop to prep everyone, and you gamely agreed,” she recounted.
“I’ll never forget how happy you were at doing a comedy workshop. You enjoyed the funny and silly exercises despite the whole body workout,” she continued. “It was one full day of laughter. I will forever cherish those memories.”
Vergel also extended her condolences to Guzman’s bereaved wife and son.
Further details on Guzman’s death were not immediately known to the public. His family has yet to release a statement as of this writing.
Some of the films Guzman was part of were “Una Kang Naging Akin” (1991), “Koronang Itim” (1994), “Ikaw Ang Miss Universe Ng Buhay Ko” (1994) and “Sa Piling ng Iba” (1998). /ra
