Patna schools to remain closed till June 28 amid severe heatwave – Times of India

Patna Heatwave 2023: Patna District Magistrate, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Singh on Saturday extended the closure of schools up to class 12 till June 28 due to severe heatwave conditions in the city.
“Under section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 do hereby prohibit the academic activities of all the Private and Government schools (including Pre-school and Angadwari centres) of Patna district up to Class 12 till June 28, 2023” reads an official notice issued by the District Magistrate, Patna.
The decision to extend the school closure in the city is due to the prevalent high temperature with high humidity in the district, the health and life of the children are at risk.

This is the third time the Patna District magistrate has announced the extension of school closure in the city. Earlier, it had restricted all academic activities from June 12 to 18. However, due to the prevalent heatwave situation, the administration extended the school closure up to the 12th class till June 24.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), 35 districts in Bihar are experiencing a severe heatwave. The maximum temperature in Sheikhpura, Jamui, Patna, Nalanda, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Kaimur, and Aurangabad districts has already touched 45°C.
