Party at the Palace viewers confused where Ed Sheeran is after he didn’t perform

People up and down the country tuned in to watch the Platinum Party at the Palace, dedicated to celebrating the Queen’s 70 years on the throne. There were some truly iconic British artists on show, including Sir Elton John, Duran Duran and George Ezra, and some from abroad too – legendary American actress and singer Diana Ross was there to close out the show in style.

But, one British artist was seemingly on everyone’s minds – Ed Sheeran. Many fans expected the singer to feature in tonight’s performance after he was recently announced on the line-up. So, when he didn’t, people took to social media to express their confusion.

One user wrote on Twitter: “WTF Ed Sheeran…Only watched it thinking he was on.” Another one, also clearly expected the British singer, said: “OMG feeling very emotional just brilliant…fantastic – but where was Ed Sheeran?”

“I thought that Ed Sheeran was appearing at the #partyatthepalace,” another said. One confused viewer wrote: “What actually happened to Ed Sheeran? Wasent he meant to be there?”

Royal fans were right to expect the singer to show up for the celebrations – expect, he’s scheduled to perform tomorrow night during the Platinum Pageant, which explains the confusion.

Sheeran looks set to perform his song ‘Perfect’ during tomorrow’s celebrations as a tribute to the Queen and her late husband, Prince Phillip, a song originally released in 2017 on the singer’s Divide album.

The Platinum Pageant – like the Party at the Palace – will take place against the backdrop of Buckingham Palace. It will close out the country’s he last four-day celebration of the Queen’s 70-year reign.

Huge crowds gathered for tonight’s concert, with 22,000 people attending the event. Around 10,000 of them were allocated in a public ballot and 5,000 were reserved for key workers.
