Top MLB prop picks

Best bet: Machado over 0.5 runs (-112)

Machado hits for average and power, and the third baseman has been doing a lot of the latter as of late.

The 30-year-old has only produced two hits over his last three games, but he’s made them count. Machado has clubbed a pair of home runs during this stretch.

The San Diego Padres star benefits from a plus-pitching matchup on Monday. Machado faces off against Colorado Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela, and he has dominated the righty.

The two have squared off 22 times in the majors and Machado has recorded eight hits – including three doubles and a home run – off of him, according to Swish Analytics. That’s good for a .409 on-base percentage and a strong .700 SLG.

Senzatela has been struggling ahead of this matchup, too. The 27-year-old has produced a 6.27 ERA in his last four starts, allowing 27 hits across 18.2 innings of work.

Machado’s chances of scoring are also bolstered by his position in the batting order as he typically hits second. We’re betting he can cross the plate in a matchup with plenty of factors working in his favour.

Key stat: Machado has reached home safely in four of his last five games and in six of his last eight.

Quick picks

Alonso over 1.5 hits (+195): Alonso and the New York Mets have been rolling, and the ingredients are there for Polar Bear to have a strong performance against the Washington Nationals on Monday.

The 27-year-old has done a number on Nats starter Patrick Corbin throughout his career. Alonso has registered 12 hits – including two doubles and four home runs – to go with eight walks across 41 plate appearances against Corbin. He’s also covered this number in four of his last seven outings.

Alvarez over 0.5 RBI (+143): Finding ways to get plus-money odds on Alvarez seems like a worthy venture considering how dominant he has been this season. The big left-handed bat owns a .310 average and 30 homers this year.

It’s an even stronger play, however, against a pitcher he’s had success against. Alvarez has churned out seven hits and two walks in 10 plate appearances against Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi. He’s driven in a run in two of his last three games, and in three of his last five.

Odds as of 8:51 a.m. on 08/01/2022.
