Partner Content | NBA prop picks December 30: Bet on Lauri Markkanen to make it rain

There are nine games on the NBA schedule Friday night, providing plenty of prop betting opportunities — and we’ve identified three players we’re hitting overs on.

The pregame narrative: Lauri Markkanen is hot from beyond the arc and a couple of high-quality role players, Donte DiVincenzo and Trey Murphy III, have seen their production increase in recent weeks.

Find all our best NBA props picks for December 30 below.

NBA prop picks

Best Bet : Markkanen over 3.5 threes (+107)

For most players, this line is too high to consider, but Markkanen is one of the deadliest shooters in the NBA right now.

While the big Finn is averaging just 3.1 threes per game on the season, that number doesn’t tell the whole story as he struggled with his 3-point stroke early in the year before finding it in late November.

The difference between his performance from beyond the arc in his first 20 games compared to what he’s done since is significant:

Split 3PM/game 3PA/game 3P%
First 20 games 2.1 5.8 36.5%
Last 14 games 4.5 8.9 50.4%

We’re not convinced Markkanen can keep sinking more than half of his threes, but he probably won’t have to considering the recent uptick in his volume.

In his last four games, he’s attempted 10 or more 3-pointers on three occasions. He only had three games with double-digit attempts in his previous 30 games.

Markkanen also put up 13 or more threes in two of those games, a number he’d touched just twice in the 312 NBA games he played before December 20.

The 6-foot-11 forward is making an effort to put up more threes and that should work against a Sacramento Kings defence that allows the NBA’s sixth-highest conversion rate on 3-pointers (36.8%).

Key stat: Markkanen has made four-plus 3-pointers in nine of his last 14 games.

Quick picks

DiVincenzo over 11.5 points (-114): The Golden State Warriors guard has been an afterthought for most of the season, but he’s become an important player for the team in recent weeks:

Split Starts Minutes/game Shots/game Points/game
First 19 games 1 17.9 4.5 5.0
Last 7 games 6 33.2 10.0 13.0

Unsurprisingly this uptick in role and performance closely coincides with Steph Curry’s absence as Golden State needs more from the man Basketball-Reference insists is known as ‘The Big Ragu‘.

DiVincenzo has hit this over in five of his last seven games and should repeat that feat on Friday.

Murphy over 12.5 points (-113): Although Murphy is prone to the odd dud, this line is too conservative for the emerging shooter.

Since missing a week in late November due to a foot injury, Murphy has grabbed a spot in the New Orleans Pelicans starting lineup, averaging 14.7 points and over 30 minutes per night in 15 games.

The second-year guard has cleared this over in nine of those 15 contests and four in a row.
