Partner Content | Blue Jays vs. Rays prop bets: Bet on George Springer to stay hot

On Wednesday night, the Blue Jays and Rays continue their four-game set at Tropicana Field.

The pregame narrative: George Springer has a solid history against Tampa Bay starter Shane McClanahan, and we’re backing Springer in multiple ways — including a plus-money wager involving Yusei Kikuchi.

Blue Jays vs. Rays prop bets

Best Bet : Springer over 0.5 runs (+118)

This is certainly a better price than we’re used to seeing for a Springer run prop — even when he’s slumping — and it’s clear that some respect for Tampa starter Shane McClanahan is baked in.

But even with McClanahan and his 2.05 ERA on the mound, we view this as a bargain worth jumping at.

Springer has had the most success against McClanahan among all Jays hitters, batting 5-for-15 (.333) with three home runs. He also has a .555 wOBA and a 93.7 mph average exit velocity, per Baseball Savant.

Despite going hitless against McClanahan when they last met on April 16, Springer worked a first-inning walk and scored the Jays’ only run.

Back then, Springer was in the midst of an uncharacteristic offensive spiral. But he’s been much better lately and should have a solid chance to score from the leadoff spot tonight.

Coming off a four-hit night, Springer has reached base a whopping 15 times over his past five games.

Key stat: Springer has 1+ runs in 10 of his past 16 starts.

Quick pick

Springer 1+ hits, Kikuchi 4+ Ks (+120) : With four multi-hit games in his past five overall, Springer looks like a reasonable bet on his bases prop. But we’re just going to ask for one hit from the outfielder tonight, which is something he’s accomplished in 15 of his past 17 starts.

To take us into plus-money range, we’ve added Kikuchi over 3.5 strikeouts. He’s only topped that number in four of nine starts this year, but he also finished with exactly three Ks three other times.

Kikuchi collected a season-high nine Ks last month against the Rays and has hit this over in each of his past five outings against them.

McClanahan over 5.5 Ks (-137) : McClanahan has cleared this line in eight of his 10 starts this year, including on April 16 against the Blue Jays.

His K-rate against current Jays hitters is only 20.8%, which is well below his career mark (29.0%). But his high-90s fastball and three offspeed pitches are known to keep hitters off balance on a nightly basis. Look no further than his career 10.5 K/9 for proof.

If you want to cut the juice, here’s one option: add Christian Bethancourt under 0.5 RBIs (-240) to make this a +150 parlay. Bethancourt is batting .209 this month with under 0.5 RBIs in 14 of 16 games.
